about this photo
This iconic row of Victorian and Edwardian homes, located on Steiner Street across from Alamo Square Park, and known as The Painted Ladies, has become one of the city’s most photographed landmarks.
Built between the late 1800s and early 1900s, these homes survived waves of development and the 1906 earthquake, later restored and painted in bright colors during the 1960s and ’70s to celebrate their intricate architectural details.
Set against the backdrop of San Francisco’s modern skyline, the Painted Ladies capture the enduring contrast between the city’s historic charm and its ever-evolving urban landscape.
